chuck, i read the article. hopefully the changes won't get caught up by politics. the comments below the article are just as interesting. even as a business owner, it amazes me how people immediately think that privately owned business would straighten this all out. as if there isn't abuse, waste, fraud, in private business. as i have said before, its all about the attitude of the people who manage and work in an organization that determines how efficient and effective the outcome will be.

"The new head ... lamented what he sees as a constant negative focus." So, they will solve it with a committee. That is the complaint of the new head as taken from the link above.

There is already a report by the Inspector General with this as the first paragraph:

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This interim report provides an overview of our ongoing review at the Phoenix Health Care System (HCS), identifies the allegations we have substantiated to date, and provides recommendations that VA should implement immediately. Allegations at the Phoenix HCS include gross mismanagement of VA resources and criminal misconduct by VA senior hospital leadership, creating systemic patient safety issues and possible wrongful deaths. While our work is not complete, we have substantiated that significant delays in access to care negatively impacted the quality of care at this medical facility. (I added the bold)

You can read the full report here.

As far as I know, nobody has been fired or indited. I wonder if the committee will look into that.

I only recently ( 1 and 1/2 months ago) enrolled in the VA system. Maybe I am blessed to be in the Boston VA system, but it seems good even when compared to the world class Boston teaching hospitals (Brigham and Women's, Beth Israel, MA General, and MA Eye & Ear) to which I am accustomed and still use. No system is perfect and even world class ones have their problems form time to time.

I am in the Austin Texas area and I have been using the VA here since I got to this area in 2007. I use both the VA and the local doctors here and I prefer the VA. Before I came here I was using the VA Hospital in the South Dallas area and it was a very good clinic but also very busy. Except a few times with long waits to get appointments I have never had any issues with the staff. Now here the appointment wait times are within 30 days and if I need adjustments are my aids fixed I can just go to the walk in clinic and I am normally taken care of in 30 minutes.

chuck and tambourineman, i hope you guys posted your good experiences on the site of chuck's post. i don't think the public hears enough good experiences of veterans at the VA, just my opinion.

Thanks Gary I will do that. And by the way thank you for your little talk to me. I promise to be much more positive. All I want to do on here is help the ones that I can.

On another positive note. Just got word that the VA disability board has approved my claim for increased disability due to my severe hearing loss and my ringing I my ears. Just waiting for the final approval from above the board. I have up to now just be classified as service related hear loss with 0% disability. Not expecting much but what I have been told should be 10% for the ringing in my ears.
