Thread: Order placed, TruHearing for Starkey Z Series.

  1. Default Order placed, TruHearing for Starkey Z Series.

Went in to my audi for my hearing check.
We decided that the Starkey Z Series I-90 Micro RIC (312) would be best for my loss. While there, I registered with TruHearing. They called back after about 5 minutes with the approval.
My out-of-pocket costs will be $350 for both aids, with another $150 if I decide to get the remote. TruHearing's price for the aids is $2850 and my insurance is covering $2500. So, Thursday I will begin my 45 day money-back trial.

    Congratulations,
I am very interested to hear about your experience at Tru Hearing.
I am new to aids and looking to get my first set.
While I am leaning towards Costco Tru Hearing is an option I am considering due to insurance.(Humana)
I need to call them I guess to check on any help with the cost other than the discount.
    Was the Audi good?
    Do you like your aids?
Good luck and let me know.
    Thanks, Cookie

Audi was great, and I'm quite happy with my HAs.
I found a TruHearing rep, Riley, who does email, if you would rather not call.
    riley.w@truhearing.com
Riley was very knowledgeable and very patient, answered my MANY questions and steered me to the audi (not the closest) I finally was happy with .

Be EXTREMELY careful with TruHearing! They will tell you that they are in-network with your insurance provider when they are not. Almost fell for it. If your insurance doesn't help at all, or much, with HAs, you can't beat the prices. And while I did not go with TruHearing, I did stay with the audi they paired me with.

My insurance, Fed BCBS, contacted me with information about TruHearing, telling me exactly what $ amount was covered per ear.
So, when I contacted TruHearing, I knew going in what to expect.
All in all, a great experience.

I know this is an old thread but since I just got HA's through Truhearing (about 6 weeks ago) I thought I'd put my two cents in. TruHearing was very nice towards me. I had no idea of what to do or how best to go about getting hearing aids. BC/BS sent me a letter saying they had partnered with TruHearing for good deals on aids and to just give them a call. I called and they set me up an appointment at a store which was very convenient for me. I already had been to an ent and had my audiogram so I didn't have to have another test.
The provider was real big on Starkey telling me how many people were satisfied with that brand and they convinced me that was the brand I should use. I went with the muse i2400 because I felt I might as well start out with all the options and see how it worked. Fitting and programming went well but I did go back several times for adjustments.
Now, with that said, let me give some opinions. First, the 3 free visit limit is quite discouraging. I'm done with free visits and starting with my next one it will be 20 bucks a pop. I'm ok with that right now because I seem to be pretty 'dialed in' right now. We'll see how that goes. I really have no reference point for aids, and because this is so new I guess my future satisfaction will provide me with that information.

Secondly, on my last visit I asked the Aud. if I saved any money by going through TruHearing. I was told that No I didn't and actually could have gotten them cheaper if I had just walked in the door, and plus if I would have just walked in I would of been able to have unlimited adjustments. She said they weren't supposed to tell people, but I flat out asked her what the deal was. She said I paid TruHearing for basically having them look up a hearing aid provider and setting up the appointment. They also gave me 80 batteries.

I would rather deal straight with the provider rather an intermediary who is going to get some of my HA money. I can call and make my own appointments. I did get some peace of mind using TruHearing the first time and getting suggestions for something that I knew so little about but after thinking about it after I would not use them again. Getting HA's has been quite an experience.

    RussF,

They got you, so sorry. I hope, hope, hope you can return the hearing aids immediately and go back to the audi and 'just walk in the door' and ask for those better savings.

I returned my TruHearing aids. It got a little dicey getting TruHearing to refund my insurance company (which held my new HA purchase up for 6 months) That was partly the fault of my insurance. What finally worked for me was a YELP campaign trashing TruHearing. Not sure if he's still there, but here is the info for the vice president of marketing who straightened out everything for me:

    Brent Verhaaren: (801) 938-1117 ext. 1169

I walked back into the audi TruHearing set me up with and was astounded by how much less I paid for Starkey HAs. Also, I got lifetime batteries and receiver warranty - huge.

    RETURN, RETURN, RETURN!!!!

    Best of luck,
    Dave

To anyone else that stumbles across this thread, the current offers at TruHearing are not that great!
    • Only 48 batteries per aid
    • Only three free visits

Here's what to ask an audi for:

    • Lifetime batteries
    • All adjustment visits free
    • Lifetime receiver warranty (annual replacements)
    • Annual hearing consultation

    Minimum to expect:

    • 2 years of free batteries
    • All adjustment visits free
    • Annual hearing consultation

    Am I missing anything?

TruHearing should drop that AuD and sue him to see how many folks sent to him by TruHearing ended up buying directly from the AuD.

    Doc Jake,

As someone who got screwed by TruHearing, it's hard to agree. You are correct, and I get what you're saying.
