But I agree that users tend to expect instant success (especially the more money they pay for the HAs). I'm guilty of it myself. But mfgs are also to blame for hyping up their marketing too much sometimes, or incorrectly sometimes, causing incorrect expectation from consumers.
Unfortunately, so much depends on your audiologist or HIS as to what you get and how successful the end result will be. If you go in saying you want Phonak HA's and the fitters preference is to work with Oticon or vice versa you unlikely will come out with HA's that work to your liking. The other part that has to be figured in is your hearing loss: if it's mild or moderate, you should do okay, severe you expectations start being higher than the results and if your loss is profound then all bets are off.

Any new user that doesn't test drive a min of 2 and better yet 3 aids is just short changing themselves. If you're not happy with a pair after a couple of adjustments and about 45 days.. Its time to move on. If I was buying my own these days I would head to Costco take their CC and trail the KS7, the Cala and the Brio.. You can do the three trials without actually paying a dime. Be sure you are doing the trial with the correct level of receivers and the proper molds or domes.

I thought Costco requires you to pay up front before you can take any HA home to try out. Sure you can return and get a refund. But your money is tied up while you're in trial.

Whatever.. Have you figured it out yet?

With jlt audiogram I hope he is using a property vented custom mold or he's wasting his time.

I've bought HAs from Costco 4 times over the last 20 years, and every single of those 4 times, I have had to pay in full for the HAs before they let me walk out with them.

I've only bought one pair from Costco, but I needed to pay for them when I ordered them.

My guess is Doc Jake means if you use a credit card, you don't have to pay on the spot and by making payments wouldn't have made a monthly payment, or maybe only one, if you returned after a 45-day trial. In my case at one point I had both the KS6 and Trax. I'd charged both, paid for the KS6 before interest accrued, and knew whichever pair I returned, I'd either be good to go or only have to pay the extra for the Trax. I never made a partial payment or had to pay interest.

P.S. My experience was similar when I trialed Widex from a private audi. They didn't charge my CC and give me credit back when I returned, but they did take all the info so they could have charged if I didn't return. It was a two-week trial, and there was no doubt in my mind that charge would have hit the card on the 15th day.

Exactly! Play the game.. Charge, bill comes in 30 days and you have at least another 21 days to make payment. Return first pair before payment is do. Repeat for pairs 2 & 3. Get the pair you like pay for them and then you have 180 days.

You need to purchase each HA that you want to trial and then return the ones you don't want for a complete refund. I am becoming more to my HA's each day. I think they can make a couple of adjustments to make them even better. If not I will probably pay for a pair of the KS 7.0's and make a comparison and then keep the best ones. In fact I may order a pair of the KS 7.0's anyway, nothing to lose.
