Thread: OPN questions for a loyal Oticon buyer

I found this to be a helpful primer on earmolds, especially regarding concha locks that I never had and pressure vents.

Also, an interesting study on vent hole sizes. In short, an inverse relationship exists between loudness and vent sizes if I interpreted it correctly.

Thanks for sharing these links, gkumar. They're very informative.

My ears typically generate much fluids/wax due to my oily skin type.

In short, Is it worth asking for power molds without vent holes for greater volume or is it worth having those vent holes for occlusion purposes?

the molds can be easily sealed by putting some acryl in the vent and letting it harden, and that can be drilled open once again, if you don't like it. You can try it out on your mold without damaging it, it is a standard customization that can be done in a couple of minutes. just talk to your audi about it, they should be able to do that right there without having to send the mold to anyone.

as for the effect of a closed mold. usually the low frequencies are better heard, and the software reduces the mid frequencies if you set it up. I can hear better with closed molds.
