Thread: Fitting and orientation fees

  1. Default Fitting and orientation fees

I got a quote on a new set of hearing aids recently and was told a single level 9 hearing aid would be around $2400 with a dispensing fee of $150, earmold $75, ear impression $40, and fitting/orientation of the aid $1050. This put the total for a single hearing aid at $3755 or a pair a $7510.

For a set of level 7 aids everything is the same except each aid is $2090 each for a total of $6910

For a set of level 5 aids each aid is $995 and the fitting/orientation is $750 for a total set price of $4120

These seem quiet high to me compared to what I paid 6 years ago when I got my last set.
Should the fitting/orientation fee really be $2100 for a set of hearing aids?

Oh, man. What a ripoff. I literally laughed out loud when I saw the words "fitting/orientation".

If you're an experienced user, you should consider buying online; the cost is half as much for the same product (you didn't mention the brand, but it hardly matters). I bought mine from buyhear.com (OPN1's).

It's unusual to see the cost broken down like that. Usually they just give you a single quote for the pair which includes everything.

You didn't say what make model HA it is, you only said level 9. But usually even top of the line premium HAs should run around $6K with everything included at a local provider, and around $4K or less if you buy online. At least check out online places to get an idea of what a reasonable cost should be.

They didn't give me a specific model but we had talked about the Oticon OPNs. I have checked online for prices and found that I can get a pair for around $3700 at both factory direct hearing and buyhearing.com. The one thing I worry about however is the setting up of the hearing aids. Reviews on the sites seem good but... I don't know anyone who has actually gone through the in home adjustments.

I think BuyHear.com used to sell the OPN1 for $3,600 but since they'd gone up to $3,800 and now they're at $4,000. FactoryDirectHearing.com is now at $3,758 for the OPN1.

Beside Abarsanti being happy with BuyHear.com, another poster did post that he was also very happy with FactoryDirectHearing.com. I think we have more posters reported buying from BuyHear, probably just because BuyHear has been around longer.

You can get the OPN2 for $3,700 at BuyHear, but I have heard from a couple of our posters who tried both the OPN2 and the OPN1 and they both decided to spend a few hundred dollars more for the OPN1 because they could tell a difference between them, enough to pay the extra money for the OPN1.

I order a pair of opn1s today from buyhear.com. Should be here between 3-4 weeks. Saved almost 50% from local audiologist quote.
