Default Did you have pain following SSHL?

I experienced sudden hearing loss in January 2012. After months of treatment (steroids and diuretics) it has not come back. Now I am starting to experience intermittent pain in that ear that seems to be getting more frequent and severe. Also, some mild pain in my other ear. Has anyone else experienced a similar pattern?

Go back to your ENT.

Good advice and I will so. I greatly appreciate your suggestion.

My question is really this: has anyone with long term SSNHL experienced pain in the ear that loses hearing or the other ear? Did the pain indicate some underlying problem? I will ask my ENT but I was wondering what other SSNHL diagnosed patients have experienced.

If I got to my ENT, I suspect he will simply put me back on diamox or maxzide which is targeted at relieving fluid build up. These medications have side effects and I would rather not take them. And most importantly, they have no effect on my hearing loss. If they reduce the pain (which is not severe at this point but which is heading in that direction), then maybe I just need to diamox or maxzide and suck it up.

Any anecdotes from others who have experienced SSNHL?
