There is a different set ofquestions. No one on the forum is an average ha user or they wouldn't be on the forum. No one knows what my hearing sounds like to me. It is hard to describe hearing. Individuals can spend unlimited amounts of time tweaking their ha settings. So my question would be can a technically sophisticated ha user improve on the ha settings from an average ad? I have bought the ha's. An ad has adjusted them. Why won't the supplier allow him to give me the set up program so I can modify the settings myself?

I believe there is a very large learning curve. That aside look at different prescriptions and their recommended amplifications. Verifying target of a prescription is close to the best someone else is going to do with your hearing. I truly do not discount knowledge or experience. All the dispensers/audi's here have that extra interest in sound/hearing. Is "3 db is twice the power", sort of like saying humans can distinguish 1 billionth of atmospheric pressure?

242 x 8 = 1936 (that's more like it...lol)
1936 x 40%= ~775
775 + 1000 + 220 = 1995

So around 2000 hours.

SORRY FOLKS!!!
So at $5/hr this is worth 10 kilobucks. If the knowledge is transferable to other aids it might be worth it over a lifetime of hearing loss.

I did not answer the question. Can a technically sophisticated ha user improve on the ha settings from an average ad? I say yes. If you took the attitude that ''what is the least amount of amplification that will give me the most comprehension'', and knew that the most pleasant sounding settings was not going to give you the best comprehension, then there are tweaks on the parameters where "better" can be found. None of the professionals posting here are your average aud or dispenser. I think average is, needing to make a sale, trying to not have to use more than the default settings. Turning volume up or down a little
The curious should download a software...

At least play with it enough to to be able to, with your audiogram input, change from one prescription to another, google all that crud that you do not know. It is some very interesting stuff.

Default DIY programming

I have a Bernafon VE9 aid for 8 months now from Costco. I went back 10 times
to get fitted, he couldn't get it right, the HIS can't hear what you hear.

I got tired going back for a other appointment. I got hold of the Oasis software
and cables my next door neighbor has a Hi-Pro, in three sitings
my aid is perfect
I love it now, it's not that hard to DIY

jburns,
If foxhunter was able to do by himself in three tries what his HIS COULD NOT DO in 10 tries all the power to him.
